Bass Clef's guide to Hackney Central

Welcome!
Hope you had a good journey on London’s famous Trans Silverlink Express!

This is E8 – why not see the sights while you’re here…

Shopping? Here’s my two favourite corner shops. When we moved back to Hackney and were sussing out the local shops – we asked the guys at Empire supermarket what time they were open until – he said “we never close”

Just to the left of Venus & Big Foot dry cleaners (you should see them, they make a lovely couple – just be careful not to trip over him) is the entrance to Tesco’s car park. Here you will be offered the latest in pirate DVD’s, every five yards. These people are the friendly face of Hackney’s Vietnamese triad gangs though, so remember kids…be nice!

of course if you prefer Super 8, just visit Umit’s instead!

Now we’re in Clapton, E5. The picture on the left is the house where I wrote some of the tracks for the album. On the right is Biddle brothers, a nice pub (not exactly an everyday find in Hackney). Check the wrought ironwork, nice.

Here’s Clapton’s finest Junk shop, hidden away on Clarence Road. I picked up a lot of random vinyl here…

Oh yes, check those Vintage dryers.

Here’s Hackney Downs, no, it’s not a mental illness or a medical condition. It’s a nice park.
It does border the Pembury estate though!

The other side of the Town Hall is lovely London Fields. It was a mass grave during the black plague, don’t you know.

Here you will find some sculptures commemorating Hackney’s pearly king and queen shepherds, who ruled for over 400 years.

I have heard tales whispered by elderly hackney residents, that should the borough ever be in peril, the statues will rise up with their army of stone sheep and save the day…

Just time for a swift one in the spurstowe before your train.
Come back anytime!
